The second woman after Pratibha Patil to become the President of the country, Draupadi Murmu hails from the Baidaposi area of Rairangpur of Odisha. Born to a Santali family, she was called Puti Tudu by them. It was her school teacher who named her Droupadi. Not to mention, she was also called Dorpdi, Durpadi.

She worked as a junior assistant at the irrigation department of the Government of Odisha from 1979 to 1983.
