Great news for all the BLINKs out there! Blackpink members have renewed their contracts with YG Entertainment for group endeavors, propelling them to reclaim the top spot on the monthly girl group brand reputation ranking after six months.

Girls on Top: BLACKPINK Stands First on December Girl Group Brand Value Rankings

December brand value rankings of girl groups have been announced by the Korea Institute of Corporate Reputation. According to the big data analysis, BLACKPINK stands first, followed by the fourth-generation leader NewJeans, registering an index of 4,730,218. Despite a marginal 0.02% decrease from the previous month, it has shifted down from the top spot.

The third has been secured by another fourth-generation queens- IVE, recording a total of 4,547,363. It has slipped down one position, reflecting a 1.82% decrease in reputation compared to the data from the previous month.

The four members of BLACKPINK have all decided to stay with YG Entertainment for their group activities as they renewed their contracts. 

On December 6, YG Entertainment revealed that, following thorough discussions with BLACKPINK, the company entered into exclusive contracts for the group’s activities, emphasizing a foundation of profound trust.

Yang Hyun Suk, the executive producer of YG Entertainment, expressed joy at the prospect of extending their collaboration with BLACKPINK. He conveyed optimism about BLACKPINK’s commitment to further illuminate the global music scene, serving as ambassadors not only for the agency but also for the K-pop genre. Yang Hyun Suk also communicated the agency’s steadfast support and confidence in the group’s future endeavors.

BLACKPINK intends to express gratitude to their global fanbase by unveiling new music and organizing an extensive world tour with the support of YG Entertainment. 

What About BACKPINK Members’ Solo Activities? 

As per earlier reports from South Korean media, should the four stars decide not to renew their contracts, they can explore solo careers with alternative representation. In such a scenario, their group performances only occur when their schedules permit.

In November, Munhwa Ilbo, a local newspaper, reported that none of the BLACKPINK members had finalized individual contracts with YG. Additionally, the report indicated that rival agencies had extended offers worth “tens of billions of won” (with the exchange rate of $1=₩1314).

YG Entertainment Witnesses a 20% Surge in Shares Following the Renewal of BLACKPINK’s Contract

On December 6 2023, shares of YG Entertainment Inc (KQ:122870) surged by more than 20% following the announcement of a new exclusive contract with all four members BLACKPINK. 

YG’s stock surged by almost 23% to reach 58,900 won, marking its most impressive session over a decade. The substantial increase in stock value significantly outpaced the modest 0.5% rise observed in the broader KOSPI index.

This year, stock market increases driven by the success of music acts have been a consistent trend. A U.S. movie theatre chain, AMC Entertainment Holdings Inc (NYSE: AMC), experienced substantial gains when it announced the sale of over $100 million in advance tickets for a concert movie featuring Taylor Swift’s The Eras tour.
